Muskát: The most beautiful meteor shower of the year, the Gemini meteor shower, can be observed in Oman. According to Qasim Hamad Al Busaydi, chairman of the Astronomy and Astrophotography Committee of the Oman Astronomical Society, the meteor shower that begins on Saturday night will be most visible and stunning before moonrise.
The moon is set to rise at 12:50 AM. Therefore, the time before this will be the most suitable for observation, he explained. As moonlight increases, visibility of the meteors will decrease, so it’s recommended to look towards the eastern sky from areas with low light pollution. Up to 120 meteors may be seen per hour. The Gemini meteor shower is caused by debris released from the asteroid 3200 Phaethon.
